Allocation of carnival places for nippers
Parents! We urgently need more help at carnivals. Given the record numbers of nippers attending the recent Terrigal carnival, we were short of officials and water safety on the day and were lucky to get an extra official at short notice. If we are short, Branch will stop ALL our nippers competing. For this reason, the following nipper allocation system will be used for the Copa carnival on 27 Nov if we can't get enough parent helpers. This system was unanimously agreed at the November Junior Committee Meeting.
Nippers who have a relative attending the carnival as official, water safety, age manager or team manager are able to compete. All other nippers will be selected at random until we have reached our maximum based on the number of officials and water safety. Selection is not based on ability or who registers first, it will be entirely random as we do not discriminate on ability. The selection will be done after carnival entries close on the nipper day prior to the carnival and anyone not selected will get a refund of their carnival fee.
We really hope that this approach is not needed. There is an official course before the next carnival so there is still time if you want a guaranteed spot for your child at the carnival. Please contact your age manager ASAP to get your name on the course.
If we can get one parent from every family attending carnivals to help out, then the burden will be spread.
Officials and water safety get the best view of all the races!

Nipper Proficiencies
To take part in nippers, beach or water, nippers must complete a preliminary swim in the surf. There is a longer competition swim for anyone who will be competing.
Proficiencies will continue to be run on Sunday nipper Club days depending on conditions. Depending on water safety availability and conditions, they may also be run at nipper swim training on Fridays.

Parents of under 5s please read
Hi,
We know how keen four year olds can be to join the Surf Club, but if they join early experience has shown that they tend to lose interest because they have to do the first year of nippers twice. Worse still, they have to do the second year with different kids as the older ones move on to under 7s.
The Executive has considered the pros and cons and decided that the age rule needs to be strictly enforced. To join the Surf Club for the 11-12 season, children must have turned 5 before 30 Sept 11. This has always been the rule, but exceptions have been made in some years.
No exceptions will be made from now on. To make it clear, they will not be able to join if they turn five during the season. They will be able to join in the next Surf season after their fifth birthday.
Please call me on 0411 024 980 if you need any clarification.
Regards,
Jonny D (Hon. Registrar)
